All About Hair Extensions with Art + Autonomy Salon

For years, I've worn hair extensions. I've tried every type on the market. I have had both good and bad experiences with extensions, but I finally found a brand that I trust -- Heritage Hair Extensions. There are a lot of bad extensions out there. It is so important to have a professionally trained extensions expert install your hair for the best result.

WHY DO I GET HAIR EXTENSIONS?

I naturally have super fine, thin hair. I bleach it every 4-6 weeks and it is very damaged from the coloring. (But not any more now that Ive found my new color guru, Siobhán Quinlan) Combined with weekly blow-outs and styling, my hair had begun to break. I wanted my beautiful, long hair back, but I didn't want to wait for it to grow. So I got extensions! Another reason people get hair extensions: they are an instant solution to thinning hair! They add body and depth, and give you a very glamorous look.

HOW MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF EXTENSIONS ARE THERE?

The three main types of semi-permanent hair extensions are keratin, tape-in, and micro bead. With keratin, the extension is bonded to your hair with keratin proteins. They are not reusable. Tape-in extensions are a very popular option. My tape-ins years ago weren't done properly and I could see the tape. If and when installed properly they can be a quick fix to hair that lacks thickness, add more length or both instantly. Micro Bead extensions (my favorite) have no glue or heat involved and are not damaging at all!

HOW MUCH DO HAIR EXTENSIONS COST?

When getting extensions, you are paying for the hair AND for the application of it.

The hair extension experts at Art + Autonomy Salon customize the perfect length and thickness for the most natural look. Hair Extensions can be an investment. Great hair extensions like these can run anywhere from $1500-$5000. Art + Autonomy Salon stylists know that your budget is important. They will work with you no matter what your budget is!

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

Extensions begin to grow out as your natural hair grows, but if you're using reusable extensions, you can easily get them "pushed up" and they look like new! Professionals recommend that you have them pushed up every 6-10 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows.

WHICH HAIR EXTENSIONS DO I USE?

After a TON of trial and error, I've finally found the best looking, safest, least-damaging, and most cost-effective option.

Art + Autonomy Salon in SoHo applied Heritage Hair Extensions Micro Bead extensions to my hair. The brand, Heritage Hair Extensions, uses double drawn, Luxury Remy Hair (the highest grade on the market) and it is reusable!!! This type of bead hair extension has a silicon insert which reduces the stress and damage to your existing hair significantly. There is no sticky tape, no acetone, no chemicals. It's just an easy clamp-in method, and they can easily be taken on and off. This is perfect for me, because I'm always changing my style and sometimes I want short hair for a few weeks, but then I go back to long hair when I miss it!

DO HAIR EXTENSIONS LOOK REAL?

Yes! They are made of real human hair. If you are worried about people seeing the tiny micro beads at the root of the hair extension - you can stop worrying, because the extensions are perfectly placed between layers of your real hair, so the extensions never show! I can throw my hair into a ponytail or a braid, and the extensions remain a secret.

As for the color and texture? Art + Autonomy Salon has a team of highly-skilled hair extension experts. Not only do they match your hair color to the extensions, they dye the hair to match yours perfectly. Since I got them, no one has known that it's not my real hair! The hair is lightweight, shiny, glossy, and luxurious. I am very happy with it.
