Enlightened Ice Cream

When it comes to low-calorie Ice Cream options on the market, there are 3 top brands: Arctic Zero (which I am not a fan of) Halo Top (my favorite flavor is Birthday Cake which you can read about here) and the ULTIMATE option: ENLIGHTENED.

Marketed as "The Good-For-You Ice Cream," this product line boats 7 flavors and has JUST announced 7 more to hit the shelves this month (just in time for Valentine's Day, am I right?)

The folks at ENLIGHTENED sent me over the current line to test out, so below please find my favorites. Nutritional information is based on a serving size of 1/2 cup (or 1/4 of a pint!)

1. Caramel Oatmeal Cookie Crunch: My absolute favorite ice cream right now. The taste is smooth and buttery, and unlike its low-cal competitors, it actually TASTES LIKE ICE CREAM. The crunchy cookie pieces are a nice touch. 100cal, 5g fiber, 6g sugar, 7g protein. Contains gluten.

2. Frozen Hot Cocoa: Perfect for when you're craving chocolate this winter. Gooey marshmallow swirls and real chocolate chips mix with a velvety Swiss Miss-esque base. 90cal, 5g fiber, 6g sugar, 7g protein. GF.

3. Sea Salt Caramel: This pint is the lowest calorie option of the line. It has a bold caramel flavor and it was as satisfying as "the real thing." 80cal, 5g fiber, 5g sugar, 7g protein. GF.

You can skip: the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. It's hard to compete with the flavor of the classic cookie dough that I've had all my life, but hey, at least they tried! The flavor was a tad bland and there weren't enough cookie dough globs. I will stick to Ben&Jerry's for this one.

All in all, if you are looking for a low calorie ice cream option that packs in protein, fiber, vitamin A and calcium, pick up a pint of ENLIGHTENED. ENLIGHTENED Ice Cream is low in sugar because it's sweetened with monk fruit and erythritol, which are all-natural, zero calorie sweeteners. Most of their products are gluten free, and they even make bars for those on-the-go.
