Cheat Day Eats: NOMO Kitchen
If you didn’t know by now, my favorite day of the week is… CHEAT DAY. During the week, my diet and exercise schedule is very strict--and I like it that way. I feel stronger and perform better when I fuel my body with high-protein, low-carb foods. I do this six days per week, which leaves me one day to “cheat.” I use the word cheat in that way because I still eat mindfully, but I won’t say no to a cookie or some lightly fried tempura flakes. This brings us to the topic of my post: tacos. I love Mexican food and I actually crave tacos on my cheat day. Since I only have one day per week, I like to get it right. LOL. I have searched the city high and low for the best tacos…and they can be found at NOMO Kitchen, the restaurant at the NoMo SoHo hotel (9 Crosby Street.)
I actually prefer going to NOMO for lunch, because it’s never packed and the sunlight pours through the glass ceilings (the entire dining room is situated beneath glass, with spectacular crystal chandeliers adorning the enclosure.) I took my photographer (and beloved friend) Hannah Pollinger to lunch after one of our shoots, and we both found the NOMO to be an marvelous dining experience.
Hannah ordered the Asian Chicken Salad while I enjoyed the “Boston Bibb.” Both were fantastic but this post is not about that, it’s about NOMO’s “Mini Tacos,” made from fresh Grouper tempura, Mexican mango slaw and Sriracha aioli. The crunch-factor was perfect, the flakiness of the fish was superb, and the portion size was just enough for two people. So, if you were looking for the perfect fish taco in SoHo—you’re welcome.
